PhD Research

Actually, I finished my PhD study at UTM in 2009. My research title is "Single Input Fuzzy Proportional Integral Controller for Inverter Regulation". The study has been successfully supervised by Prof. Dr. Zainal Salam and Dr. Naziha Ahmad Azli. As known, the difficulty in designing an Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) for a system is to obtain the optimised parameters values. This is due to several factors such as numerous number of tuning parameters that need to be tuned simultaneously. Another factors is the diverse rules and membership functions shaped that can be employed. Thus, the research focus is on to reduce these number of tuning parameters and rules without affecting the original performance of FLC.

-Dynamic differential evolution (DDE) has been proposed in this study. It modifies the current DE, which has a static objective to a dynamic objective to suite with the PV maximum power point tracking (MPPT). The simulation using matlab and PLECS and PV simulator has revealed the potential of this novel MPPT algorithm. Further investigation shows that the proposed algorithm is superior compared to Pertubed & Observed method in terms of optimising the MPP searching and reducing the oscillation at at steady-state. A medium power dc-dc converter prototype has been developed and the result is comparable to the simulation.

4. M Saad bin Arif

Novel multilevel inverter act as main supervisor since February 2014

-In this study, a novel multilevel inverter is proposed. It requires the most minimum number of switches to produce a 25-level output voltage. The simulation has been carried out using P-Spice and matlab. The hardware has been set-up and currently undergoing several testing.
